Digital Video Recorders (DVR’s) replace the multiplexer and time-lapse VCR for CCTV recording.
DVR’s are more advantageous because: -
- They have a greater storage capacity with real time recording.
- They have a greater frame per second rate (fps).
- They record digitally producing higher quality recorded images.
- There are no tapes to change or wear out.
- Retrieval of recorded footage is instant.
- Backup media is normally faster, smaller and PC compatible; thus allowing it to be easily shared / stored as appropriate.
- Motion detection can save storage space by not recording when there is no obvious movement in the scene.
- Compression methods compress video footage reducing the amount of hard drive space used.
- They are NTSC and PAL compatible.
